Preparation
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Gather all the necessary supplies, including the vial of medication, syringe, alcohol wipes, and a sharps container. Choose a clean and well-lit area for administering the injection. Inspect the vial for any damage or contamination. Do not use if the seal is broken or the liquid appears discolored. Check the expiration date of the medication and make sure it is not expired.
Preparing the Injection
Remove the cap from the vial and clean the rubber stopper with an alcohol wipe. Draw air into the syringe by pulling back the plunger to the appropriate dosage amount. Insert the needle into the vial and push the air into it to equalize pressure. Invert the vial and withdraw the medication into the syringe. Tap the syringe to remove any air bubbles. Check the syringe for accurate dosage and remove any excess medication if needed.
Administering the Injection
Choose a spot on the stomach area that is free of moles, scars, or bruises. Clean the injection site with an alcohol wipe and let it dry completely. Hold the syringe at a 90-degree angle to the skin and insert the needle quickly and smoothly. Push the plunger to inject the medication slowly and steadily. Do not inject too quickly. Withdraw the needle at the same angle it was inserted and apply pressure to the site with a clean cotton ball.
