Inspect for Visible Signs of Damage
Start by visually inspecting your roof for any visible signs of damage. Look for missing shingles, cracked tiles, or dents in metal roofing. Check for signs of water leaks such as water stains on the ceiling or walls inside your home. Examine the gutters and downspouts for debris or damage, as these can indicate a problem with your roof. Use binoculars to inspect the roof from the ground if it is not safe to climb up and walk on the roof.
Check the Attic for Signs of Damage
Inspect the attic for signs of water leaks, such as wet insulation, damp rafters, or water stains on the ceiling. Look for daylight coming through the roof boards, which can indicate a hole or damage in the roof. Check for signs of mold or mildew growth, as these can be an indication of water damage.
Examine the Roof from the Outside
Carefully inspect the roof from the ground level, looking for any visible damage, loose or missing shingles, or sagging areas. Use a ladder to get a closer look at the roof. Be sure to follow safety precautions and have someone assist you if needed. Look for signs of damage around roof penetrations such as chimneys, vents, and skylights.
