Abdominal Pain
Abdominal pain is one of the primary symptoms of Crohn's Disease. The pain is usually located in the lower right side of the abdomen, although it can occur in other areas as well. The pain can range from mild discomfort to severe cramping and can be constant or intermittent. It is often worsened after meals or during periods of increased inflammation.
Diarrhea
Chronic diarrhea is another common symptom of Crohn's Disease. It may be watery or contain blood and mucus. Frequent bowel movements, urgency, and a feeling of incomplete evacuation are also associated with Crohn's-related diarrhea. In severe cases, diarrhea can lead to dehydration and malnutrition.
Weight Loss
Unintentional weight loss is a symptom that can occur in people with Crohn's Disease. This can be due to loss of appetite, malabsorption of nutrients, and increased energy expenditure caused by inflammation. Weight loss may also be a result of strict dietary restrictions and the avoidance of certain foods due to digestive discomfort. Sustained weight loss can lead to nutritional deficiencies and a weakened immune system.
Fatigue
Fatigue is a common symptom experienced by individuals with Crohn's Disease. It can be caused by a combination of factors, including inflammation, anemia, nutrient deficiencies, and poor absorption of essential vitamins and minerals. The chronic nature of the disease and the impact it has on daily life can also contribute to feelings of fatigue and low energy levels. Rest and proper management of the disease are important for managing fatigue.
